A reflection of stories of Goolay'yari (the Cooks River) shared by the community, this vibrant artwork celebrates the local Indigenous heritage and native species that call the river home. Avian species such as the Great Egret, Grey-headed Flying Fox, Purple Swamphen are featured, while many marine life, frogs, shells and diverse flora are found within and along the river.
From an EOI in November 2025, to a site visit in early January 2026 to its completion, the mural is an initiative of the Cooks River Alliance, an extension of the Canterbury-Bankstown Council. The communities of land, water and sky each thrive within the special Cooks River. The artwork was also informed by young members of the community having a yarn about what Goolay'yari means to them during the Muddy River Festival. A pipe has been painted light pink following the river with many small icons which thrive alongside the space.
