It Stands Out, UP&UP

Timeline to Here and Now by It Stands Out | Street Art NSW

This mural was inspired from Peter Lewis' Wallsend mural painted in 1981, which was originally on the corner of Nelson and Tyrell Streets but was destroyed by the Newcastle earthquakes. It heavily incorporates elements and colour palette from the original artwork, such as the trains and the coal industry nearby, with the same words also written: Wallsend - Since 1874. Below is the words Awabakal Country, which is sometimes covered by tall grass.

The artists met with Peter, which also allowed the tribute to use a similar Art Deco Industrialist imagery to look like the trams were coming out of the wall. Delivered under the City of Newcastle Special Business Rate Program, with support from the Wallsend Town Business Association and the Wallsend Heritage Group Inc.
