The Galloway family – parents James and Janet and children Janet, Alexander, William, John, Elizabeth, Jane and Robert - arrived in Kurri Kurri in the early 1900s from Lanark, Scotland.
Galloway Street in Kurri Kurri is named after James Galloway.
Alexander opened 'Galloway Studios' in Barton Street and was well known for his photographic portraits. His interest in music led him to establish the Royal Theatre in Lang Street. Alex wrote over 100 songs including the popular - 'I See Your Face' and 'Sailing onto Dreamland'.
Alex's son Bill ran the family electrical store 'Galloway's' which was located here. In the early days of television Bill placed a set in his window and locals would gather to watch it day after day. Bill, like his father, excelled in music, winning various competitions playing the violin.
This mural depicts the talents of the Galloway family and their popularity which has firmly established the Galloway name into the history of Kurri Kurri.
