This mural was the first to be completed and was undertaken in conjunction with Kurri Kurri Tidy Towns which was founded in 1988. In 1993 Kurri Kurri Tidy Towns won the overall 'State Award' in the Keep Australia Beautiful Competition. The backdrop in the mural is a view of the Sugarloaf Ranges. The Kookaburra is synonymous with Kurri Kurri and is featured on the Tidy Towns logo.
The Kookaburra is featured either large or small, somewhere in every mural in the series.
