J & A Brown Collieries Limited purchased thirteen R.O.D. Locomotives, the first of which started work in 1924. They hauled coal over the Richmond Main railway line to Hexham. The last locomotive was withdrawn from service in 1973 and Number 21 shown in this mural is preserved in the Richmond Vale Railway Museum which is located 3 kilometres south of Kurri Kurri.
The Edgeworth David Museum located in the grounds of the Kurri Kurri High School in Deakin Street, also has a display of items of historical significance as well as mining artifacts.
