Kurri Kurri Police Station Mural

Ben Mellon

Kurri Kurri Police Station Mural by Ben Mellon | Street Art NSW

The inspiration for this mural was a photograph of the Kurri Kurri Police Station passed down in the Dimmock family, which is believed to date from the 1940s. The colouring used in the mural reflects the sepia photograph.

In the photo, the taller police officer is Alvin "Clive" Churchill and in the billy cart is Claude Dimmock, who served for 33 years, making him the longest serving officer at Kurri Kurri Police Station. The boys are the sons of the Station OIC Sergeant Dawes while the Clerk of the Court is pushing the billy cart.

The vehicle in the photo was the first Police car for the area and was stationed at Cessnock.
