Friday Night Mural

Brian Standley, Carly Leopard

Friday Night Mural by Brian Standley | Street Art NSW

With the only light to see by shining from his pit lamp onto a coal seam, the miner breaks up the coal with a pick and then shovels it into skips. It is then transported above ground by a pit pony.

This mural shows a miner at the end of a hard and dangerous day working down a coal mine.

In a tin bath, in front of a coal fuelled fire place, he looks forward to his soak in the bath tub to rid himself of the ingrained coal dust. Often the men's wives would help by scrubbing their back.
