Maypoles were used by many schools to teach students co-ordination and dance. In this mural a group of young people performs a traditional dance with coloured ribbons around a central pole. The maypole was usually decorated with ribbons and sometimes flowers for merry makers to dance around. As they dance, the ribbons become entwined creating a colourful pattern. Maypole dancing celebrates the arrival of Spring.
