Heddon Greta Drive-In was commissioned by Union Theatres in 1967. It opened in December that year, on the same day that the King's Theatre in Kurri Kurri was closed. The theatre was eventually bulldozed to become the site of the current Kingsway Plaza Shopping Centre. This mural shows cars from the 1960s lined up at the Drive-In screen. In order to fund this mural, local car enthusiasts were invited to pay a donation to have their cars appear in this artwork. The Heddon Greta Drive-In is one of the few remaining in Australia and operates every weekend Friday to Sunday, where patrons disappointed with the movies are encouraged to 'slash the seats'!
