Holy Spirit Primary School, Kurri Kurri acknowledges the Awabakal, Wonnarua and Darkinjung people the Traditional Custodians of Wollombi. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
Wollombi means "meeting place of the waters" and was an important ceremonial gathering site for the local Aboriginal people.
The beautiful Wollombi Brook is also home to many native species of flora and fauna, including the critically endangered Regent Honeyeater. The platypus, Hunter River Turtle and rakali rely on healthy riparian zones for survival, while the red bellied black snakes, bearded dragons and echidnas rummage through the scrub. Together we can look after our waterways so that they remain healthy homes for these amazing native animals and plants.
