Spanning about 100 metres along Gardeners Road, this mammoth abstract piece and fabrication was commissioned for Equinix at the SY4 Internet Exchange, which brings together themes of connection, community, and change as part of the site's historical, technological and geographical context.
Flow, Fold realises Hill’s signature monochromatic works in two applications across an expansive 4000m² facade. Hand-painted, radiating concentric circles symbolise the various overlapping industrial, indigenous, and personal narratives of the area, abstracting impressions of water, ripples, time and the intersecting paths we follow. This dynamic sense of movement connects with vast sculptural forms, reminiscent of manipulated and folded paper. These forms reflect our evolving relationship with documentation and memory in an increasingly digital age, inviting viewers to contemplate what we carry and connect to from the past, present and future.
The artwork was part of a multistage collaboration, translating studio-based paper pieces into a large-scale sculptural reality. Artists who also assisted in the project include Karla Hayes, Bronte Naylor, Sharon Billinge, George Goodnow, Sarsar, Inari, Lesjak Atton, and commercial painted by Finish Line Painting.
