Abermain Newsagency Mural

This mural depicts a typical street scene of the town in 1912. An actual copy of the Newcastle Morning Herald Miners Advocate was used to produce the newspaper being held by local identity Sid 'Comet' Warren. You will notice that the front pages were reserved for advertisements and not until World War I did news appear on the outside pages. Comet Warren's grandchildren also appear in this mural as well as the children of the artist, whilst the painted on the eastern wall is local, Tad Pelc, who transferred from Scotland in 1968 to play soccer for Weston.

The lady pushing the pram in this mural bears a strong resemblance to the proprietor of the newsagency, Carol Warren. She and Ken Warren sponsored this mural.
