No. 10 Locomotive

In 1908, John Brown commissioned Kitson of England to build a large 2-8-2 side-tank engine known as No. 9 – Pelaw Main. This was so successful that two more were purchased in 1911. Number 10 was named 'Richmond Main' and No. 11 was Hexham. The no. 10 worked until December 1976. No. 9 and No. 10 are preserved at Richmond Vale Railway Museum. No. 11 was cut up.

The scene depicts No. 10 hauling coal to Hexham under a bridge using the non-air coal hoppers that were in use at the time. The locomotive had boiler pressure of 180 psi, tractive effort of 27,230 lbs and weighed 90 tons.
