Alec McIntosh's family came to the Hunter Valley from Scotland when he was still a very young child. He married Miss Leonie Bickmore, the daughter of his boss, Mr Edwin Bickmore, and together they all operated this corner shop. It was a thriving business until the arrival of the motor car and supermarket shopping.
As an original member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club, President of the Hospital Committee, Churchwarden and local identity he became an elder statesmen to the people of Kurri Kurri. This mural is dedicated to Alec, whose input was essential to its authenticity. Sadly he passed away on the very day the mural was started in July 2004 aged 94 years, so he never lived to see the mural completed.
